The Silver Eyes Spring Bonnie 2.0

This was one project I wanted to go back to, as in 2023 I had made V1. That had rough edges and sewing work. Now I have learnt more of the process of sewing fabric and making details and mechanisms work better.

I love this design of Spring Bonnie, definitely one of my favourites, based from The Silver Eyes graphic novel.

From my original Spring Bonnie model I had made, it was upscaled to fit me better and so that there can be mechanisms placed inside of the mask, mainly animatronic and springlock parts. Not everything is finalised so this is a prototype.

I had made some endo ears from carbon fibre PLA, this makes sure they are strong dealing with the ears. With V1 the ears would be split in half, one for the front and back. They would show the screws which wasn't very accurate, so I decided to make the ear one piece and have the middle part of the ear detachable by a magnet so I can get into the screw easier.

Inside the mask, there is an endo system to hold both the animatronic/ springlock parts and the wearer. There will need to be foam added in as wearing it does slide side to side. This whole head took only 5 days to make, not counting previous 3D modelling. The nose and teeth had to be my favourite part as they came out very well and smooth/ shiny, I had to apply quite a lot of wood filler and sand over and over to make sure they came out smooth. For the teeth they were marked on the back just so I knew where they needed to be glued.

Before gluing in the teeth and nose, I first printed for the head the snout, as on the reference photos the snout looks to be a separate piece to the rest of the head, plus it makes it easier to apply the fabric this way. For some parts I had black PLA filament, but with some I only had white which then needed to be painted. As I wanted the inside to look creepy when someone sees it, not knowing weather there's something inside watching back at you.

The jaw was then printed, primed and painted, with then the fabric added over, I used Minky fabric this time instead of fleece, this hides some of the seems when sewing and also in one panel of the graphic novel shows the suit has long fur.

Once the jaw was done then it was the head, I waited for all the pieces to be printed and used a soldering iron to put them together as sometimes the printer isn't big enough. Then painted the inside black, now the fabric for the front wasn't too hard to add but the back was, as I didn't use a pattern and winged it. Slowly applying and ,making sure its smooth, there is a seem in the middle and one on each side going diagonally, it isn't perfect but looks good still. During this time I had printed most of the endo parts which go inside, then painted them black too and added a silver metallic colour onto.

Next part was to place everything together, it was tedious placing so many screws together but in the end it does look amazing. Is it perfect? No, but there are only small issues which can easily be fixed later on.

The final product does look good, I wasn't sure how this fabric would turn out but I love it!!! It gives a creepy appearances while looking like a fluffy yellow mascot rabbit, which is what I wanted. The next part will be to make the body next.
